Justin Angelos breaks all the lifestyle cliches of the ‘tortured artist’ and proves my theory that great art can come from absolutely anyone.

What's in the box?

Artist and fellow Tumblrist Lee Crutchley knows all about that. So to kick off #ART02 I’ve included his interactive work book THE ART OF GETTING STARTED. His simple yet unique  approach to conquering your own self-doubt and  procrastination is a valuable tool that I hope you will enjoy just as much as I have.

When I first discovered the amazing collage work of Justin Angelos I had no idea he lived within 45 minutes of me. After some investigating I realized this presented a unique opportunity to visit and see for myself firsthand his creative process and art studio. When we met what struck me the most about Justin was that he was a family man living a normal life. It may seem like such an odd detail to bring up,  but we’ve been assaulted our entire lives with the idea that being “normal” inherently contains a negative connotation and has no place in the “art world.” Justin breaks all the lifestyle cliches of the “tortured artist” and proves my theory that great art can come from absolutely anyone. His personal life aside, Justin adheres to the “doing” philosophy of making art. Which is why he has so many great pieces. I’ve included a print of one of his collages, titled “CODERS.”

In our last shipment, we included a throwback mixtape cassette of various artists. This time, we’re proud to present Children of Pop’s double EP FIESTA / DRIFT. The Children of Pop wonderfully create a mash-up sound of multiple musical genres while levitating around the father figures of the pop zeitgeist.

Lastly but not leastly, each new box we pick a random subscriber as an artist or collaborator to be featured in the subsequent box. We chose Evan Jed from Salt Lake City, who happens to be an extremely talented illustrator who prefers custom laser-engraved items. Included are THREE OF EVAN JED’S DESIGNS IN LEATHER, which he made especially for #ART02!
